Billing and Insurance

About Your Bill:  After your hospitalization, treatment or procedure, you will receive a bill from the hospital for the use of the facility, supplies, equipment, medicines and resources.  You may receive separate bills from the physicians who treat you or interpret results of diagnostic tests while you were a patient at Lehigh Regional Medical Center - these physicians are NOT employees of the hospital and therefore charge separately for their services.  Examples of physicians you probably will receive separate bills from are emergency room physicians, pathologists, radiologists, anesthesiologists, etc.

Information for patients without insurance: If you seek medical assistance in our Emergency Department, you are not required to pay until after you have received a medical screening examination and any stabilizing treatment for the emergency medical condition you have.  If warranted, you may be admitted to Lehigh Regional Medical center or transferred to another facility that is better suited to treat your condition.  In all cases, you will receive the best medical care available to treat your emergency regardless of your means to pay.

Before your discharge you will be contacted by members of our Business Services who will assist you in making appropriate payment arrangements. These staff members include patient financial counselors (extension 4745), specialists in medicaid and disability eligibility (extension 4456), and/or a representative from the Department of Children & Famililies (DCF) (extension 4448).  These specialists are employed to assist you in qualifying for a number of programs that may pay your medical bills in full or in part.  We highly encourage you to make the most of their services.

If you do not qualify for assistance, you will be expected to pay for your bill in full or make appropriate payment arrangements with one of our financial counselors before leaving the hospital.  If you make payment arrangements, you will be expected to make an initial down payment on your bill at that time.  For your convenience we accept cash, checks, major credit cards and debit cards that carry the Visa or MasterCard logo.

If you are seeking non-emergency care or diagnostic/ancillary services and do not have insurance, you are expected to pay for services prior to treatment.  Questions concerning the price of non-emergency services should be directed to our Financial Counselors at 368-4745 or Admitting Supervisor at 368-4407.

Information for patients with insurance: Insurance coverage is a contract between you, your employer (in many instances) and your insurance company.  As a courtesy to you, we will file your medical claim with your insurance company in a timely manner.

In most instances, we will accept payment directly from your insurance company in accordance with your policy's terms and apply the payment to your account.  Contractual discounts will be applied at that time.  You are responsible for any co-payment, co-insurance or deductible and we will request such payment from you or request arrangements for payment prior to your discharge.  You will receive periodic statements indicating that we have billed your insurance company on your behalf.  However, please understand that you are ultimately responsible for payment of your medical claim.

If your insurance company fails to pay your claim in a timely manner or rejects your claim in part or in full, you will be billed direclty for the medical services you received.  If that should happen, we recommend that you contact your insurance plan administrator at your place of employment or contact your insurance company directly.  If you have paid your insurance premiums according to the contract, your insurance company should pay the claim on your behalf in a timely manner.

Our patient account representatives are available to speak with you about your bill and help you with any problems you may encounter Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 1-866-481-2553.
